Congrats to Odnihs for winning the UMD tourney! Read the news from AGA weekly journal. Your rating is still that high, just checked. On a good day

Congrats odnihs. Smile I went 4-4 in the self-paired tournament at the Congress this year, and I came away with The Optimist trophy. XD

I went 2-1 in this weekend's tourney(and won btw), and my rating actually went down...lol.

The tournament is played with New Zealand Rules - 45 Minutes Main Time and 10 Minutes 25 Stones Byo-Yomi. New Zealand Rules are a bit different from AGA rules hence we had a situation where a player not knowing the NZ Rules found himself losing when in fact he would have won under the Japanese Rules.

The following is a raw NZ Demo sgf, the second column is what should be emphasized. Thanks to FlameBlade for doing a large part of the Demo. It's a short 9x9 Demo but you get a gist of the NZ Rules.

All the teams should remember the following tips:
1. The score is equal to the stones + territory
2. Dame is worth 1 point when occupied, 0.5 points a piece to each player if not
3. You should be taking advantage of the rules to ensure your stones get into your opponent's area whenever possible
4. Playing it safe won't hurt you, you don't lose points because of 1. Remember this point because if you have a choice between expanding and playing it safe, just remember that if you can kill the invading group, it doesn't matter how many stones you place within your own territory.

You can download the .sgf directly below.
