Wow, what an amazing game! And it all comes down to komi in the end. Dennis Wheeler explains what is going on with Ing Vs. New Zealand on in his post on GD: with Ing rules (and using Ing fill-in counting), there should never be a tie game -- because there's an odd number of total points available (we'll discuss tie exceptions in another thread) http://senseis.xm...ngCounting white points + black points = 361 (always -- except for the exceptions that we're not discussing; but at least never more than 361) I've always understood the main difference between Ing rules and New Zealand rules (which is the closest thing KGS has to Ing) was that white wins tie games in NZ whereas black wins ties in Ing -- thus making 7 point komi NZ == to 8 point komi Ing but I'm not sure that's true anymore (either that or the KGS implementation has a bug). the last tournament I officiated, was an Ing match, but played with NZ rules on KGS. KGS scored the win for one player, but hand counting by Ing rules gave the win to the other (and both players eventually confirmed my count). and I'm not talking about the score estimator which uses a separate algorithm and can not deal with area scoring rulesets. __________________ "Go is to Western chess what philosophy is to double entry accounting." -Trevanian Paul Barchilon, American Go Foundation |

I went 4-4 in the self-paired tournament at the Congress this year, and I came away with The Optimist trophy. XD
